DMP Tool
DMP Tool is an online service that lets you write, share, and publish data management plans. Search public data management plans to get a sense of what peers in your field are submitting.
Create an Account
Select the "Get Started" button in the middle of the webpage or the "Sign Up" button in the top right. Sign up using your University of Maryland email.
Signing up with your institutional email will take you through the Central Authentication Service (CAS). You must scroll to the bottom of the CAS page and select "Accept," and then you will be prompted to complete your account registration.
Creating an account with your institutional email provides you access to plans that other users have created and shared within the organization. This allows you to view their plans as samples.
Create a Plan
Selecting the "Create Plan" button from your dashboard or the upper right corner of the webpage will open the following form.

If the primary funding organization is in the DMP Tool's list, you will be given the option to select a DMP template. In the image below, the National Institute of Health (NIH) was selected as the primary funder.
Select "Create plan" at the bottom of the page and the plan will be generated.

Populate the plan with your project's information. DMP Tool also enables you to add collaborators, select plan visibility, and generate a DMP ID for your plan. A DMP ID can be linked to your ORCID and project outputs like datasets and journal articles.
